We are very excited to announce that "Partners with Parents" will be having
two new semesters of social skills groups during the the 08-09 school year.
Our first semester will begin immediately after Succot.
This program is geared for school age children who:
Feel rejection, are isolated, are shy, are impulsive, have learning
disabilities, lack assertiveness, are teased, have difficulty making or
keeping friends, are bullied or bully others or suffer from mild
neurological deficits.
The children in the groups will learn how to:
Understand and express emotions, make conversation, learn alternatives to
aggression/conflict resolution, join in play with peers, make and maintain
friends, problem solve, build self-esteem, engage in verbal/non verbal
communication and practice taking the perspective of others - learn about
the "Theory of Mind".
This will be done through:
Direct teaching using a cognitive approach, modeling/acting, coaching and
behavioral interventions.
-Individualized goals are designed during intake process (week #1) and prior
to the children beginning the group.
-Group placement is contingent on candidates being an appropriate
developmental match with the group.
-Participants must possess a skill level that will enable him/her to
interact with others and express themselves verbally.
-Learning and practice through participation in carefully chosen activities
that reflect the repertoire needed for future social success!
Our expanded program this year will offer some new features:
*More sessions for our groups so that our students can really fine tune
their skills!
*More opportunities for parents to meet and learn how to best help their
children!
*More ongoing email parent support during the semester!
Each semester is a 16 week program, consisting of 12 group sessions and 4
parent meeting. All groups will be in English and take place in our office
in Nofei Avi, Beit Shemesh on Thursday afternoons.
Interviews take place THIS week on Wednesday and Thursday, September 10 and
11th, from 4 - 7 PM. Every new child must be interviewed by our social
skills instructor to determine if their needs and skills are suitable for
the groups we are forming.
Email or call today to set up a time for your child's interview!
Best wishes to everyone for a successful school year.
