here is the bad news - thegovernment zapped kitot
meshulavot. nstead, you have kitot mekadmot, which are
self-contained catch-all classes. these classes , by self-fulfilling
prophesy, fil up with kids with "borderline" IQ (70-80) and kid swith
seriosu behaviour problems, so that kids with more minor problems
tend ot be referred to mainstraem classes, adn IF the parents request
a veadat shiluv, MIGHT get an hour or two a week fo help, maybe.
the GOOD news CAN BE, that if we all work together , we can demand
the reinstaement of kitot meshulavot = mainstream classes with at
least 4 kids with learning disabilities and a special ed teacher IN
THE CLASSROOM to work with the regular staff. Mrs. Mali Danino, CEO
of NITZAN has offered to help with this.
here in beit shemesh, we have a group of 5 girls going to grade 1
next year who are working on getting a class like this here. We have
gotten ourselves together, and will IYH meet with the principal of a
local school., and once we get her consent, our next step is the
city's education dept, and if necessary, the veadat hinuch of the
knesset. I know that there are some parents of boys going to grade 1
who are interested as well.
if this type of class is important to you, whether for grade 1 or any
other grade, please let me know. we need to really define ourselves
as a group that are committed to fight for this.
