I have allergy asthma. I am also finding out I am allergic to alot of foods.
Which no answers the reason for my digestive problems.
Hi everyone. My name is Doris. I would like to tell you a little about myself.
I am on 2 inhalers. One a steroid. Also a nasal steroid. I take 2 allergy pills
a day with antihistamines. I take alavert and vistaril.
I also have a nebulizer. My pollen allergy is so bad that when I am outside for
any length of time I have to wear a mask.
I have seen the allergy stuff they have you. Its a cream you rub on your nose to
block triggers. Has anyone tried it?
I am allergic to peanuts, pgpr, tbhq, bha, salmon, raspberries, grapefruit,
paprika, sunflower seeds and oil, aspartame, phenylalnine, phentylketonuria,
maple syrup, honey, all fragrances.
I can't use any soaps like dove or anything like that. I have to becareful with
detergents, deoderants, soaps, and alot of other stuff.
My big question is. How can I enjoy the outdoors when there is so much pollen in
the air? I break out in hives and lose my voice, cough, black out, and at times
lose my balance. It is frustrating not being able to things outdoors without
wearing hypoalergenic gloves and a mask just to do light gardening.
I'm hearing lots about the new inhalers not working as well as good
old albuterol. I guess Al Gore would prefer everyone with asthma to
just go ahead and kneel over and die in order to save the polar bears.
Seriously, I would keep your Rx for your nebulizer filled just in
case. Also, if you don't do it already, you should measure your peak
flows with a peak flow meter once or twice a day. By charting your
flows, you can have 12 hours or more notice BEFORE a major asthma
event. This gives you plenty of time to adjust your meds to stop it
before it happens.

Hello there, My name is Terry, I live in MD and was diagnosed with
asthma 3 years ago and was just last week confirmed to have serious
allergies to Not just Tree Nuts, but to ALL NUTS, I'm a bit overwhelmed
to say the least, So much is changing in my life, I do have several epi
pens.
I look forward to getting to know everyone and being able to support
you as well.

I just joined. I'm from Missouri. I was diagnosed to having asthma,
after having a bad ordeal with Bronchitis. After several times in the
ER back in 2000, with a real bad asthma attack, the ER nurse hollered
that I was having a major asthma attack. My oxygen level was way down,
which was very scary.
I've been doing real good since, thanks to the allergy shot and Advair.
I still keep an inhaler in case I have an attack. Well, due to
Albuterol has been taken off the market here in the US, I was put on
ProAir HFA. What do you all know about this medication. I'm in another
group, and there was an link posted in it about this inhaler, and three
others, that doesn't work as well as Albuterol. Do you all think I
should go ahead, and get the medication I need for my nebulizer, just
in case the new inhaler doesn't work for me, when I have an asthma
attack. I haven't had to use it, but we all know how fast that can
change too. Thank you in Advance, Donna Evans who'll be 50 in October
Ken,
Thanks for the head's up. I just made sure this
person cannot post to this group again.

And who or what in the world is "Better Meals Through Chemistry"?
It appears to be a PR stunt to discredit the poduct "Splenda"
This "exposure" has been posted by an Alton McGuiness [whoever he is] on many

Grandma's Home-Made Sucralose
(Reprinted from "Better Meals Through Chemistry" by Alton McGuiness,
Jr.)
"The most indispensable ingredient of all good home cooking - love, for
those you are cooking for." - Sophia Loren
If you love the great taste of Splenda® sweetener ("Made from sugar,
so it tastes like sugar"), you're a fan of sucralose - known
affectionately to gourmets around the world as
4,1',6'-trichloro-4,1',6'-trideoxygalactosucrose. If you are a die-hard
traditionalist or do-it-yourselfer, you may have thought about whipping
up a batch in your kitchen, just like grandma used to do. Here's your
chance.
This recipe has been handed down for generations, starting with U.S.
patent 4,362,869 which was filed on December 4th, 1980, just in time for
holiday baking. At least a dozen more patents have come along since
then, but most people use the original method which is fine as long as
you're not too worried about impurities or residual hydrochloric acid.
Sucralose can be used as a substitute for sugar, but in lesser amounts
since the same "magic trick" that is used to make pesticides more potent
- chlorination - is used here to make the sugar more potent. So
you use less! And since your body can't use sucralose the way it uses
sugar, ninety percent of the sucralose you eat comes back out again.
They hope to find out where that other ten percent goes someday in the
future, but sucralose is something you can enjoy today!
Ingredients
2 cups white sugar
1 quart water
2 quarts pyridine
4 cups acetic anhydride
1 cup thionyl chloride
1 cup sulphuryl chloride
4 cups dimethylformamide
A pinch of Splenda® brand sucralose
2 ion exchange columns
Cheesecloth
Large mixing bowl (not plastic)
Ice cream maker (at least 1˝ quart capacity; hand-crank or electric)
Rock salt
Ice
Notes on Ingredients
Pyridine is a toxic colorless flammable liquid with a disagreeable,
putrid fish-like odor, and is usually derived from coal tar although if
you are out of coal you can whip up a batch using acetaldehyde,
formaldehyde and ammonia.
Acetic anhydride is the chemical compound with the formula (CH3CO)2O and
is used in lots of recipes, like the one that you use to refine opium
into heroin.
Thionyl chloride is listed as a "Schedule 3" compound under the Chemical
Weapons Convention Act, along with phosgene gas and cyanide, so be sure
that you start on the paperwork at least six months before you need it.
Sulfuryl chloride is a colorless liquid with a thick pungent odor so be
sure to leave the windows open, especially since it can explode on
contact with water. Since sulfuryl chloride is not found in nature, it
can be pricey but when it comes to attaching chlorine atoms to sugar,
pesticides, etc. there is just no substitute.
Dimethylformamide has been linked to cancer and birth defects in humans
and penetrates most plastics, so be sure to use a glass or metal mixing
bowl.
Steps
1. Be sure to use all of the necessary safety precautions that
grandma taught you in chemistry lab.
2. Slowly add the acetic anhydride to the pyridine. When it is
dissolved, pour half of it into the ice cream maker, reserving the other
half for later. Pack the ice cream maker bucket with ice and rock salt
to bring the temperature of the pyridine-acetic anhydride solution to
around four degrees below zero Fahrenheit. Be sure to never use the ice
cream maker for anything else ever again.
3. Add the sugar and crank the ice cream maker for about four hours.
If you are using a hand-crank ice cream maker, you will probably want to
get family members or neighborhood kids to take turns - when they
hear that their reward will be cookies made with chlorinated table
sugar, they'll be eager to help!
4. After four hours, most of the sucrose will now be
sucrose-6-acetate, which sounds tasty but the overpowering toxic fishy
scent of the pyridine will help remind you not to sample the goods until
we're finished. Separate out the sucrose-6-acetate using the ion
exchange column; if you don't have an ion exchange column, try whisking
in the whites of six eggs and a pinch of baking powder, then strain
through two layers of cheesecloth. Note that this latter method will
not work.
5. Now, we'll make some fresh "Vilsmeier reagent." Pour the thionyl
chloride into a mixing bowl and add the dimethylformamide. Put some
plastic wrap over the bowl and put it in the freezer for four hours
until a white precipitate forms. Take it out of the freezer and pour
into the ice cream maker. Resist the urge to lick the bowl! As if your
life depended on it, which it does.
6. Mix the sucralose-6-acetate with the Vilsmeier reagent, and add
the remaining pyridine-acetic anhydride solution plus a quart of water,
and whisk for as long as you can stand the fumes. This is the magic
step that adds the chlorine to the sugar to give it its distinctive
chemical structure and make it superdy-duperdy sweet.
7. Add one quart of water and cook over low heat to drive off the
pyridine and other stuff. Run the resulting solution over another ion
exchange column. I'm pretty sure that's the next step, I was having
trouble thinking straight when Grandma showed me this because of all the
fumes. I think it was my Grandma anyway.
8. The liquid you have left should have about 1 cup of sucralose and
1 cup other stuff that came pretty close to being sucralose, but no
cigar. Put this in the freezer and add the pinch of sucralose. This
will cause the sucralose in the liquid to crystallize and come out of
the solution and mostly leave everything else behind. It's weird that
you need sucralose to make sucralose, isn't it? Maybe it's just the
dimethylformamide talking, but how the heck did they make it the first
time?
9. Strain through a cheesecloth. Voila, a chlorine-enriched,
zero-calorie sweetener just like Grandma used to make!
10. Sucralose is an amazing 600 times sweeter than sugar, so mix the 1
cup of sucralose with 599 cups of suitable "filler material" (sawdust,
baby laxative, etc.) and use just like sugar. Now go make those
cookies!

I'm a 38 year old female suffering from severe allergies. I have
constant hives and angeodema and have been placed in the hospital for
anaphalaxis shock twice. I have been to many Dr.'s and had test after
test run and I'm being told they have no idea what is causing this.
I feel like I'm going crazy. Can anyone give me some advice? I have
tried every antihistamine out there with no results. I have been
dealing with this for over a year now and my Dr. tells me that it is
possible to have this problem for many more years to come.
Does anyone else out there suffer from this problem? Has anyone found a
way to get relief?
Desperate for help,

This group was started by my sister Denise. This topic is her passion,
and she lived vicariously through this group until her divorce some
years back. Then the stress of raising a child solo quickly eliminated
internet from her budget.
For those of you who remember Denise, she just gave birth to her
second child at 40. Her oldest just turned 19. ;-)
I simply manage the group in Denise's absence. She will return when
she can financially rely upon a regular internet connection.

Subject: Email to prevent MCS eviction in UK Gillian McCarthy
Dear MCS Friends,
As it concerns England, this may be considered off-topic, as it concerns
England; however there have been similar incidents right here in Michigan.
About two years ago, a man in Jackson, MI was being threatened with eviction
and possible jail time over painting the outside of his house.
An emergency appeal, which a member of MCS Friends sent out to MCS email lists
all over the world, brought a world-wide response in less than 24 hours.
The city officials in Jackson changed their attitude instantly. The Jackson
resident with MCS was amazed to receive letters from Japan, Australia, etc.
I was equally amazed at both the response and the power of the internet to
make a difference.
I believe it lends great credibility when intelligent emails are sent from all
over the world.
So please consider taking a moment to help this woman and help educate the
world about the toxicity of modern life.
Also, feel free to forward the message below to other people or email lists
that may be interested to help.
Personally, I have a quibble with the statement that this person is the first
in history to be afflicted with MCS. I do not know how old she is, but we all
know Theron Randolph identified the problem over 50 years ago in Chicago. I
think the concept this is a “rare” disease is not only inaccurate, but opens her
up skepticism that she is just one eccentric kook.
Here’s a great news report on Gillian McCarthy with a gallant MCS sufferer
named Gordon McHenry presenting himself nicely.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF8eWp39eLw
My email will comment on the prevalence of MCS.
This appeal has the same urgent timing of the Jackson, MI incident. I believe
the response can be even greater.
Enjoy this experience!
Dear All,
Re: Gillian McCarthy
The fight goes on! Somerset District Council are determined to evict Gillian
from land that they put her on 11 years ago. Her MCS is so extreme (along with
physical disabilities) that even if they found somewhere safe to re-house her,
the move is likely to prove fatal.
Gillian has applied for temporary planning permission to keep her hut where it
is. Ideally local people need to write in support of this application, but
given the determined attitude of the council, this is unlikely. Gillian
therefore requests that anyone no matter where they live, should write in
support as soon as possible.

Dear Madam,
Ref. Planning application 08/00077/FUL
I am writing in support of the application for temporary retention of the
dwelling known as The Stop Gap, Knowle Bridge Road, Shepton Montague, BA9 8JA.
This is to retain the temporary structure on the site, on the grounds that this
is the most appropriate site it has been possible to find for it's severely ill
occupant, Gillian McCarthy.
After many years of searching by professionals, doctors, family and friends,
the site was originally selected and agreed in 1996 by representatives of South
Somerset District Council, Somerset County Council and their medical advisor.
Both councils are therefore aware how dangerous it would be to try to move Ms
Mccarthy given her current state of health.
Everyone who has visited the site agrees the site is not readily visible, is
not near other dwellings, and imposes no discernable inconvenience on the
locality – being over a mile away from the nearest line of sight building.
Given that the landowner is happy for the dwelling to remain where it is, the
District and County Councils have already agreed this was the most suitable site
for the dwelling, and that attempting to move Ms McCarthy is likely to prove
fatal and would at the very least cause immense suffering, I fail to see why
this application should not be approved. Incidentally your website lists Ms
McCarthy as not having paid sufficient fees. In fact the fee was paid at the
end of October and we have since discovered that because she is disabled and on
full benefits, she was eligible for exemption of fees anyway.
Gillian McCarthy suffers from very limiting physical disabilities and has one
of the world's worst known cases of extreme allergies and sensitivities to a
variety of synthetic and natural chemicals, materials and electromagnetic
fields.
Living in this relatively safe location, Gillian has been able to provide
important research on this condition for other sufferers like myself. Moving
her from this site would result in the catastrophic loss of the Safe As Houses
Trial Garden which is already archived at national level thanks to the
invaluable research produced for this illness.
As a fellow sufferer of chemical and food sensitivity, I know how difficult it
is to find safe accommodation. Given that Ms McCarthy has managed to survive on
this site for the past 11 years, along with the points outlined above, I see no
logical reason why this application should not be granted.
I should be grateful if you would keep me informed of this case.
Yours faithfully,
Ms N Greenham.

Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to pop in and let everyone know. Though I am the one
doing the basic management for this list, and though I am a moderator
of the list, I am actually here as a courtesy to my sister. Her name is
DENISE SAYLOR and this is actually her list. She is the asthma sufferer
in the family along with my brother.
I am here strictly in a management sense since Denise is new to the
whole concept of managing a discussion list. I run several groups
online.
Kenn Brown has kindly agreed to help support this list in Denise's
absense. [Denise is currently offline due to issues she is facing
in her personal life. She looks forward to when she can return to
the list, although that time remains at this time unknown.]
I will be lurking to make sure the list remains free from spam. There
are only going to be four rules in this group. Please take the steps
to avoid breaking them.
THE RULES:
1. NO HTML EMAILS (If you use your own font inside of Outlook Express
for this group, that is HTML Email!) Don't do it. Send your email
as plain text.
2. NO AUTORESPONDER RESPONSES TO THIS GROUP (This one will get your

subscription to the NOMAIL setting here at yahoogroups by
sending a blank email to:

3. No Spam
4. It is our opinion, and their is documented evidence to support
our opinion, that Ozone machines are a health hazard to those
who use them. You may discuss Ozone machines on this list, but
you had better not advertise them!
[We have had people ask us to drop this rule, on the basis that
they believe we have our facts wrong. Your opinion is that we
are wrong. Our opinion is that Ozone machines are bad for your
health. You are entitled to your opinion. We are entitled to
ours. The most common argument from folks that want us to
change our stance is, "Our product has been rated safe by
the ..." FDA or EPA or whomever. I can't tell you how many
products have been rated safe by the federal government and
then later pulled from the market because, "Oh by the way, we
made a mistake. This product is NOT safe for use or consumption."
In conclusion, if you want to hype your Ozone machines on this
list, save your arguments for someone who does not have deaf
ears. No matter your arguments, we will not permit anyone to
promote Ozone machines as a safe treatment on this list. HINT:
We have been down that road before and will not permit our
readers to be subjected to the same bogus claims. It is our

Hi everyone, I'm new and my name is Caroline. I have been diagnosed
with allergies & asthma for several years. Recently, I am having
allergy symptoms itching/rash that I suspect are related to the
laundry products I am using. I use All free/clear (free of perfumes
and dyes) detergent, with Borax Laundry Booster and some chlorine
bleach. Can someone please share what are the common allergens in
Laundry products? Thanks.

I was diagnosed in Jan. with exercise induces asthma and allergic
rhinitis. OK, it's been 5 months and I've found new triggers and have
noticed that my symptoms seem to be asthma( coughing ,difficulty
breathing, and wheezing) rather than allergy( sneezing, watery eyes
itchy eyes, congestion, runny nose) when I'm exposed to a trigger. I'm
having to do my inhaler 3-4 times a day WAAAAAYYYYY too much- I think.
I've read alot online and found out alot that I'd not known about
asthma before. I seem to have allergic asthma. I just don't know if
maybe I was misdiagnosed??? Does anyone know?

THE RULES:

4. It is our opinion, and their is documented evidence to support

A few days ago I got my letter from the SSDI.
It was favorable.
Now I can't wait for payment so I can pay some of these medical bills off.
Anyways, I say to anyone trying to get SSDI especially for migraines, depression
and asthma and if you keep after them, it will be approved eventually.

If your excercise is done in a gymnasium try a diffeent gym. Many are very
unhealthy plpaces due to unfit people sweating and releasing various toxins and
VOCs.

Subject: [4Allergies-Asthma] does anyone have info for me?
I just joined this group and have questions that I hope someone can
help me with. I was recently diagnosed with exercise induced asthma and
allergic rhinisitis( don't know how to spell this) I suspect that my
asthma might be something more than EIA because I sometimes have to use
my inhaler at times other than when I'm exercising. I don't know all my
triggers and have had allergies for as long as I can remember. I can't
figure out if my problem is more asthma than allergies because it seems
that the triggers are the same for allergies as for asthma. How do I
know when it's allergies or when it's asthma?
Somebody please let me know what's what. Thanks,
Karan

Hey Karan, welcome to the group. All I can tell ya is that I have asthma
that is set off by my allergies. I have had bad allergies for a few yrs,
then developed asthma, and was told it was from my allergies.
I think it is possibel to have asthma that is exercise induced and allergy
induced.
