God's Time
I was taking it easy, laying on the grass and
looking up at the clouds when I decided to talk to God.
"God," I said, "how long is a million years?"
God answered, "In my frame of reference, it's about a minute."
Then I asked, "God, how much is a million dollars?"
God answered, "To me, it's a penny."
So I asked, "God, can I have a few pennies?"
God answered, "In a minute."

What Drugs Can Do

Now I see what drugs can do, to not just me but also you.
They change your brain where you don't care,
Right or wrong it's all fair.
From your friends they'll make you steal,
And make your life seem so unreal.
They'll make you rob and make you cheat,
And make you think you got them beat.
They'll leave you standing in the rain,
With nothing but a lot of pain.
Without a nickel or a dime,
And nothing but a lot of time.
So then you think it's time for you,
To change your life to something new.
But you think it's to late,
The drugs have filled you with so much hate.
So if you think you need some drugs,
You're very wrong you just need hugs!

Just for Today
July 10 A Positive
Attitude

"That old nest of negativism followed me everywhere I went"
Basic Text, p.135

A negative attitude is the trademark of active addiction. Everything
that occurred in our lives was someone or something else's fault. We
had blaming others for our shortcomings down to a fine science. In
recovery, one of the first things we strive to develop is a new
attitude.
We find that life goes a lot easier when we replace our negative
thinking with positive principles.

While a negative attitude dogged us in our active addiction, all too
often it can follow us into the rooms of Narcotics Anonymous. How can
we begin to adjust our attitudes? By altering our actions. It isn't
easy,
but it can be done.

We can start by listening to the way we talk. Before we open our
mouths, we ask ourselves some simple questions: Does what I'm going
to say speak to the problem, or the solution? Is what I'm going to say
framed in a kind manner? Is what I have to say important, or would
everyone be just as well off if I kept my mouth shut? Am I talking
just to hear myself talk, or is there some purpose to my "words of
wisdom"?

Our attitudes are expressed in our actions. Often, it's not what
we say, but the way we say it, that really matters. As we learn to
speak in a more positive manner, we will notice our attitudes improving
as well.

Just for today: I want to be free of negativity. Today, I will speak
and act positively. pg.200

A Gift that Grows with Time

For most normal folks, drinking means conviviality, companionship and
colorful imagination. It means release from care, boredom and worry. It
is joyous intimacy with friends and a feeling that life is good.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 151

The longer I chased these elusive feelings with alcohol, the more out of
reach they were. However, by applying this passage to my sobriety, I
found that it described the magnificent new life made available to me by
the A.A. program. It "truly does get better" one day at a time. The
warmth,
the love and the joy so simply expressed in these words grow in breadth
and depth each time I read it. Sobriety is a gift that grows with time.

Twenty-Four Hours A Day by Hazelden/ July 10th

A.A. Thought for the Day

We in Alcoholics Anonymous do not enter into theological
discussions, but in carrying our message we attempt to
explain the simple "how" of the spiritual life. How faith in
a Higher Power can help you to overcome loneliness, fear,
and anxiety. How it can help you get along with other people.
How it can make it possible for you to rise above pain,
sorrow, and despondency. How it can help you to overcome
your desires for the things that destroy. Have I reached
a simple, effective faith?

Meditation for the Day

Expect miracles of change in people's lives. Do not be held
back by unbelief. People can be changed and they are often
ready and waiting to be changed. Never believe that human
nature cannot be changed. We see changed people every
day. Do you have the faith to make those changes possible?
Modern miracles happen every day in the lives of people.
All miracles are in the realm of personalities. Human nature
can be changed and is always being changed. But we must
have enough faith so that we can be channels for God's
strength into the lives of others.

Prayer for the Day

I pray that I may have the faith to expect miracles. I pray
that I may be used by God to help change the lives of others.

Today's Thought
JULY 10

You are reading from the book The Language of Letting Go.

Ending Relationships

It takes courage and honesty to end a relationship - with friends,
loved ones, or a work relationship.

Sometimes, it may appear easier to let the relationship die from
lack of attention rather than risk ending it. Sometimes, it may
appear easier to let the other person take responsibility for
ending the relationship.

We may be tempted to take a passive approach. Instead of
saying how we feel, what we want or don't want, or what we
intend to do, we may begin sabotaging the relationship, hoping
to force the other person to do the difficult work.

Those are ways to end relationships, but they are not the
cleanest or the easiest ways.

As we walk this path of self-care, we learn that when it is time
to end a relationship, the easiest way is one of honesty and
directness. We are not being loving, gentle, or kind by avoiding
the truth, if we know the truth.

We are not sparing the other person's feelings by sabotaging
the relationship instead of accepting the end or the change,
and doing something about it. We are prolonging and increasing
the pain and discomfort - for the other person and ourselves.

If we don't know, if we are on the fence, it is more loving and
honest to say that.

If we know it is time to terminate a relationship, say that.

Endings are never easy, but endings are not made easy by
sabotage, indirectness, and lying about what we want and
need to do. Say what you need to say, in honesty and love,
when it is time. If we are trusting and listening to ourselves,
we will know what to say and when to say it.

Today, I will remember that honesty and directness will
increase my self-esteem. God, help me let go of my fear
about owning my power to take care of myself in all my
relationships.

End of the Trail -- or the Beginning?
by Alan Cohen

One of my favorite hiking trails on Maui leads to a magnificent hidden
waterfall far off the beaten path. The path to the waterfall begins as
an
offshoot of a main trail in a county park. One day as I set out on the
waterfall trail I noticed that county officials had posted a sign,
"End of
trail."

As I stepped over the sign onto the fun trail, I chuckled to think
that what
was advertised as the end of the trail was really the beginning of the
trail. If hikers simply heeded public signs, they were led to believe
their
hike was over. If, however, they paid attention to their inner guide,
they
would discover that the hike was just getting good.

Sometimes in life it appears that we are at the end of our trail, when
we
are really at the beginning. If you take your direction from social
signs,
you will just follow the herd and be programmed by other people who
think
for you, and are guided primarily by fear.

But if you follow your joy-inspired inner voice of guidance, you will
be led
to experiences that far surpass any the sign-makers post. Buddha said,
"To
see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone."

On a cute TV sitcom, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Sabrina must pass a
test of
true love to rescue her boyfriend whom she has accidentally turned
into a
toad. Sabrina's initiation brings her to a swinging rope bridge over a
fiery
chasm, where her beloved awaits on the other side. The bridge is
burning,
and if Sabrina is going to get to her young man, she will have to make a
leap of faith, now or never.

On Sabrina's side of the bridge are two signs. "True love" points over
the
bridge to her boyfriend, and "Safe Path" points back from where she
came.
"Maybe you should just take the safe path!" her boyfriend suggests. "No
way!" Sabrina answers, "that just leads to the suburbs."

Often our true path is not the apparently safe one - but if we examine
the
"safe" path, it leads only to deadness and limitation. The only real
safety
lies in being true to our own self. What does your heart tell you is
real
for you? If you were to allow your authentic self to come forth, what
would
you be doing differently?

The only quality of character that will guide you reliably through the
many
changes happening in and around you, is realness. Trust who and what you
are, and the universe will support you in miraculous ways.

My friend Donna Lynn had been seeking more fulfillment in her work,
and when
her company offered her a position on the night shift at a higher
salary,
she took it. While she had more leisure time during this shift, Donna
Lynn
noticed that the night cleaning crew was throwing away toilet paper
rolls
with toilet paper left on them. Donna Lynn felt this was a waste of a
valuable resource that someone could use, so she collected these rolls
and
took them to a local homeless shelter.

She found her involvement with this charity so rewarding that she
became a
volunteer coordinator, and then took a salaried position as director
of a
city-wide volunteer agency.

Donna Lynn's work was so successful that she gained national
prominence and
received an outstanding service award that brought her to Washington
D.C.
where she was honored by President and Mrs. Clinton, and met several
past
U.S. Presidents and their spouses - all as a result of a single
spontaneous
thought about a roll of toilet paper!

At this very moment the universe is trying to manifest miracles
through your
visions, intuitions, and longings. Imagine that your inklings are God's
whispers to your heart. The same God that gave you the idea, will give
you
the means and support to see it through.

The world is being transformed through people like you, who love
themselves
enough to trust their inner guidance, and relax enough to let the
universe
take care of the means.

"I don't just want a job - I want to be inspired."
- Rene Zellweger in Jerry Maguire

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*One Day At A Time*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Joy

When you are filled with joy every waking moment, you are then most
fully connected to your soul. And from that state of joy and bliss,
any action you take, or any thought you think, will ripple out to the
entire planet and positively influence all who are open to it. And
even those who are not.

In fact, that is your very reason for being: to experience joy in
every waking moment. To be fully connected to your soul, to your
source. In that state, you are flowing the energy of the Universe
through your physical body in a way that must, inevitably, touch those
around you, often in the most profound way.

No one, no matter how spiritually awake or asleep he/she may be, can
remain unaffected by such powerful energy as that you radiate when you
are in a state of joy. That is, when you are fully connected to your
soul, when you are fully who you really are.

So when you wonder what your purpose in life is, or what your work is,
consider this: No matter what else you may choose to do with your
life, if in all, or most, of your waking moments, you are experiencing
joy, then you have fulfilled your reason for coming to this lifetime.

And you are making a HUGE and positive difference to the planet and
all living creatures upon it.

This I know...
There is nothing, absolutely nothing, no circumstance,
no trouble, no test, that can ever touch me, until first it comes past
God.
If it has come that far, it has great purpose.
I may not understand at the moment, but as I refuse to panic,
as I lift my eyes to Him and accept it as coming from God,
as a blessing for my heart, no sorrow will disturb me,
no trial will disarm me, no problem will cause me to fret,
and absolutely nothing will make me drink.
For I shall rest in the knowing and joy of my Higher Power.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*Easy Does It*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Breathing is not simply this process through which living beings
absorb and
expel air. Breathing also allows us to inhale and exhale light. Practice
this exercise: inhale as you focus your mind on attracting light and
then
exhale concentrating on projecting this light onto your organs and your
cells. Inhale again, in the same way, and exhale. Very soon you will
begin
to sense the beneficial effect of this exercise; you will feel
relaxed, at
peace.

And once you have attracted light towards you, once you have inhaled
it, you
can imagine you are exhaling it to bestow it upon the entire world. This
second exercise should of course only be undertaken when you have
practiced
the first many times and have replaced many of your dull and sickly
particles with particles of light. You must first feel that this work of
transformation and purification is beginning to bear fruit before you
can
begin to give to others this light you have received within you. This
work
with light is also symbolized by the Hebrew letter Aleph. Aleph is the
initiate who takes the celestial light, divine life, to give it to
humankind."

Invite Your Audience Carefully

Invite Your Audience Carefully Not everyone is healthy enough to have
front
row seats in our lives. There are some people in your life that need
to be
loved from a distance. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you
let go
of, or at least minimize, your time with draining, negative,
incompatible,
not going anywhere relationships/friendships. Observe the relationships
around you...PAY ATTENTION!!! Which ones lift and which ones lean?
Which
ones encourage and which ones discourage? Which ones are on a path of
growth uphill and which ones are going downhill? When you leave certain
people do you feel better or worse? Which ones always have drama or
don't
really understand, know, or appreciate you? The more you seek quality,
respect, growth, peace of mind, love, and truth around you, the easier
it
will become for you to decide who gets to sit in the front row and who
should be moved to the balcony of your life. If you cannot change the
people
around you, change the people you're around.
