No Time For Sadness

I was feelin so sad, my computer was broke,
Drinking way too much coffee, trying not to chain smoke,
When a call from my friend, so happy and gay
Told me of a picnic that's happening today.
I said, "I'm not going," tried every excuse.
She just wouldn't let me, so what was the use?
I reluctantly got dressed, got into my clothes,
And that's how it works, as everyone knows.
There's days that I'm down, and can't reason why.
These feelings may come, I may start to cry.
The friends that I have make blues fade away.
There's no time for sadness in my life today!

Just For Today
December 9                                    Listening

"This ability to listen is a gift and grows as we grow spiritually life
takes on a new meaning when we open ourselves to this gift."

Basic Text p. 102

Have you ever watched two small children carry on a conversation? One
will be talking about purple dragons while the other carries on about the
discomfort caused by having sand in one's shoes. We sometimes encounter
the same communication problems as we learn to listen to others. We may
struggle through meetings, trying desperately to hear the person sharing
while our minds are busy planning what we will say when it's our turn to
speak. In conversation, we may suddenly realize that our answers have
nothing to do with the questions we're being asked. They are, instead,
speeches prepared while in the grip of our self-obsession.

Learning how to listen-really listen-is a difficult task, but one that's
not beyond our reach. We might begin by acknowledging in our replies what
our conversational partner is saying. We might ask if there is anything we
can do to help when someone expresses a problem. With a little practice,
we can find greater freedom from self-obsession and closer contact with
the people in our lives.

Just for today: I will quiet my own thoughts and listen to what someone
else is saying.

INTUITION AND INSPIRATION

. . . we ask God for inspiration, an intuitive thought or a decision. We
relax and take it easy. We don't struggle.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 86

I invest my time in what I truly love.  Step Eleven is a discipline that
allows me and my Higher Power to be together, reminding me that, with God's
help, intuition and inspiration are possible.  Practice of the Step brings
on self-love.  In a consistent attempt to improve my conscious contact with
a Higher Power, I am subtly reminded of my unhealthy past, with its
patterns of grandiose thinking and false feelings of omnipotence.  When I
ask for the power to carry out God's will for me, I am made aware of my
powerlessness.  Humility and a healthy self-love are compatible, a direct
result of working Step Eleven.

Twenty-Four Hours A Day by Hazelden / December 9th

A.A. Thought for the Day

The way of A.A. is the way of fellowship.  We have
read a good deal about fellowship and yet it is such
an important part of the A.A. program that it seems
we cannot think too much about it.  Human beings
were not meant to live alone.  A hermit's life is not
a normal or natural one.  We all need to be by
ourselves at times, but we cannot really live without
the companionship of others.  Our natures demand it.
Our lives depend largely upon it.  The fellowship of
A.A. seems to us to be the best in the world.
Do I fully appreciate what the fellowship of A.A.
means to me?

Meditation for the Day

We are all seeking something, but many do not know
what they want in life.  They are seeking something
because they are restless and dissatisfied, without
realizing that faith in God can give an objective and
a purpose to their lives.  Many of us are at least
subconsciously seeking for a Power greater than
ourselves because that would give a meaning to our
existence.  If you have found that Higher Power, you
can be the means of leading others aright, by showing
them that their search for a meaning to life will end
when they find faith and trust in God as the answer.

Prayer for the Day

I pray that my soul will lose its restlessness by finding
rest in God.  I pray that I may find peace of mind in the
thought of God and His purpose for my life.

Our Good Points

What's a codependent? The answer's easy.
They're some of the most loving, caring people I know.
-Beyond Codependency

We don't need a limit an inventory
of ourselves to the negatives.
Focusing only on what's wrong is a core issue
in our codependency.

Honestly, fearlessly, ask: "What's right with me?
What are my good points?"

"Am I a loving, caring, nurturing person?"
We may have neglected to love ourselves in the process
of caring for others, but nurturing is an asset.

"Is there something I do particularly well?"
"Do I have a strong faith?"
"Am I good at being there for others?"
"Am I good as part of a team, or as a leader?"
"Do I have a way with words or with emotions?"

"Do I have a sense of humor?"
"Do I brighten people up?"
"Am I good at comforting others?"
"Do I have an ability to make something good
out of barely nothing at all?"
"Do I see the best in people?"

These are character assets.
We may have gone to an extreme with these, but that's okay.
We are now on our way to finding balance.

Recovery is not about eliminating our personality.
Recovery aims at changing, accepting, working around,
or transforming our negatives, and building on our positives.
We all have assets; we only need to focus on them,
empower them, and draw them out in ourselves.

Codependents are some of the most loving, caring people around.
Now, we're learning to give some of that concern
and nurturing to ourselves.
Today, I will focus on what's right about me.
I will give myself some of the caring I've extended to the world.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*One Day At A Time*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Creativity Brings Hope
by Matthew Fox

Where does our hope lie? Where shall we ground ourselves for continuing on
and changing our ways radically? Can we be confident that creativity is the
key to our survival and sustainability as a species?

Creativity is who we are, creativity can redeem and save our species. I
agree with Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés that "all women and men are born
gifted." All we need to do is release this creativity, get out of its way,
as M. C. Richards used to say. Estés also believes that "a woman's creative
ability is her most valuable asset." I believe that is true of men as
well -- it is the most valuable asset of our species.

What are we waiting for? Let us remove the obstacles, let go of the guilt,
and get moving. We have nothing to lose but our pessimism and cynicism, for,
as Otto Rank warned us, "pessimism comes with the repression of creativity."
Creativity is not in short supply. There is an abundance of it, plenty to go
around. It has always been this way. From the original fireball to the birth
of the atoms, galaxies, supernovas, stars, sun, planets, earth and her
marvelous creatures. We humans are latecomers to the creative universe, but
we are powerfully endowed with creativity.

Some of my hope comes from the realization, growing daily, of how perilous
our situation is on this planet. As more and more people get out of denial
and the addictions denial puts us in and come to realize the danger that our
unsustainable species is in, there will be action and there will be grounds
for hope. This sounds paradoxical, and it is: Our very despair is a cause of
hope, for despair often results in breakdown, and breakdown results in
breakthrough. Our systems are breaking down today -- all of them. And we
feel it. All our professions, all our religions, all our politics and
economic and educational establishments need reinventing. They all lack
feminine energy, wisdom energy. They lack cosmology and creativity.

This gives hope -- that the Divine can and will return in a more balanced
form to our species. It will return through a coming alive of our love of
life and a response to the pain so omnipresent on our planet. This response
will precipitate an outbreak of creativity. If we can use justice and
compassion as contours to contain and to critique the use of creativity,
then what we give birth to will serve other generations and other species
instead of destroy them. Then the Spirit will be at work once again,
creating and re-creating, co-working with humankind.

Creativity is a Choice
Let us not deceive ourselves or live in a silly illusion about our
creativity. Creativity is a choice. (In theological terms, it is grace and
works operating together. It is an option to live a life with grace.)
Creativity is not a particular gift given to certain people only. It is a
personal choice and a cultural choice. An individual choice and a family,
professional, and societal choice, and at this time in our history it is a
species choice. We choose whether to let creativity flow or not -- in our
educational systems, our media, our politics, our economics, our religions,
our very psyches. In theological terms, it is a matter of letting the Spirit
in, the Christ in, the Buddha nature in.

I believe Sri Aurobindo had this in mind when he predicted a "coming dawn"
for the resurrection of poetry itself -- provided we tap into a "larger
cosmic vision" that would and could release the "Divine possibilities" of
our species. Perhaps Hildegard of Bingen, the twelfth-century abbess,
mystic, scientist, and artist, put it best when she said:

God has gifted creation with everything that is necessary. . . .
Humankind, full of all creative possibilities, is God's work.
Humankind is called to co-create. . . .
God gave to humankind the talent to create with all the world.

Just as the person shall never end, until into dust
they are transformed and resurrected,
just so, their works are always visible.
The good deeds shall glorify, the bad deeds shall shame.

It is true that we are a species that can say "NO" to our potential. We can
choose not to develop our creativity and that of our children; we can choose
to turn our creativity over to others and to institutions that appear more
imposing than ourselves. Yes, we can use our creativity for demonic
purposes -- even to deny our powers of creation is to serve demonic powers
that will willingly fill the gap. Yes, we can resist evolution -- even our
own. And our bad deeds will shame. And our species will end, bringing down
much beauty with it.

But I do believe, and I am sure the reader believes, that humankind can opt
instead for the "good deeds that glorify". We must. The Spirit of Creativity
is expecting us to do so. Creation is waiting for our response.

What We Share...

When we share laughter, there's twice the fun;
When we share success, we've surpassed what we've done.
When we share problems, there's half the pain;
When we share tears, a rainbow follows rain.
When we share dreams, they become more real;
When we share secrets, it's our hearts we reveal.
If we share a smile, that's when our love shows;
If we share a hug, that's when our love grows.
If we share with someone on whom we depend,
that person is always family or friend.
And what draws us closer and makes us all care,
Is not what we have, but the things we share

Be Ready
~ Virjinja ~

When neediness is abandoned,
along with filling other's expectations...
something quite amazing opens up.
Enter now into spiritual growth and expansion,
the place to fill your empty cup.

Never does this happen via invitation,
but rather by Divine appointment...
the opportunity has always been available,
only waiting on your decision to join in.

The new era you choose to enter
is defined by notable enhancements...
the inability to create havoc and distress ~
with driving desires for the higher attributes,
not for the less.

An amazing aura projects from within,
drawing close like moths to flame...
kindred spirits with kindred goals,
moving in unison in these higher roles.

Being ready for life like this...
creates a domino effect, leading only to bliss.
Attaining with each other the place of higher accord...
occurs naturally when communing with the Lord.

Be ready by having a change of heart.
Only be willing ~ this is the way for you to start.

In Pure Love

God does not live high above
He dwells in us
In pure love
Love not centered
By lust or greed
Like many flowers
From one seed
God sits with us
Around our table
He speaks through us
As He makes us able
To help our brothers and sisters
Along this new way
He speaks through us
When we say
In pure love
God does not live above
To live and to love our fellow man
To have a heart to understand
God will break the chains of addiction
He will fill us with a conviction
For the new comers
Who sit at our tables
Listen to what we say
God will bless your new way
God does not live high above
He dwells with us
In pure love
We have a burden
For those still suffering
As we offer our heart and hand
In pure love
To understand
We have been where your at
You no longer have to be alone
Make our program
Your new home
Cause we give it
In pure love
