Twelve Step Free is a discussion list for those who have left the groups, are seriously questioning 12-step doctrine, are uncomfortable and considering leaving the groups, have loved ones caught up in steppism, are professionals in the fields of addiction or law enforcement or simply have an interest in discussing and debunking 12 Steppism. The focus of discussion is on sharing experience with and information about the step groups.

Perhaps our most important function is to provide the first place where many can dare be critical of the Step groups and not be accused by a "unanimous majority" of groupers of suffering from one "defect of character" or another for doing so. Although not the focus here, information on alternative organizations and methods of resolving drinking problems are available for the asking.

Twelve Step Free is NOT a list for discussion of how to improve the Step groups, how to return to "true" AA, or how to "take what you need and leave the rest." The theme of this list is freedom from 12 Steppism.

Please bear in mind that any message you send to this list can be copied, forwarded, saved, edited, or quoted out of context. Once you send something to this list, it is there for anyone to see. There is no guarantee of privacy or anonymity on this or any other Internet mailing list.
