"Happy Easter every one! We're back in the hospital again. We've been here since
Friday. Serena started running a 103 fever Friday morning but had woken up at 3
am screaming something awful and having a nasty nasty cough. Brought her in and
we're still waiting on blood tests to come back. So far though all the rapids
have come back negative. But her chest xray I felt was too nasty when I saw it.
But the docs seem to think they're fine. Not with the cloudyness I saw and with
the way she's coughing....there's no way her lungs could be fine. But I've just
learned to be bull headed and stubborn about it and also have to remember that
the doctors at times are just highly paid idiots (okay maybe they're that more
than once in a while)....I am just frustrated that they can't find anything but
yet are saying she's fine and back to her base line even though she's still
running a high unexplained fever and having such a nasty cough. This cough is
worse than when she had her pneumonia! Guess we'll keep playing the wait and see
game.
well got back up to the room and Serena had a major fever going on again....she
just can't get over the fever. So got more tylenol and after an hour still had a
fever and it had gone up. The on call docs came in and come to find out Serena
has some bacteria crap growing in her urine....so she has another UTI (urinary
tract infection) and possibly up in her kidney (she has a horseshoe shaped
kidney instead of 2 seperate kidneys). So we've got to keep a really really
close eye on her. There going to start an IV run antibiotic so that means we'll
be here to at least Tuesday
Last night Serena ended up with a 103.7 fever, after tylenol!! Come to find out
She has 2 different bacteria growing in her urine...one of which is E.Coli so
we're trying to find out how she got that in her system since she doesn't eat
meat, lettuce, etc. that could be contaminated and also since she doesn't put
things other than baby food and baby spoon in her mouth. The docs think they're
going to have to do an ultra sound of her kidney since she's not had one in a
long time and also since her kidney/bladder function seems to be lower than
usual. But they're not sure if it's a true problem or if she's just holding it
because she hurts.
Serena started running a 105 fever yesterday. Just can't keep her temp down at
all. Now the docs have decided that she can take Motrin/Ibuprofen....I don't
agree because they say don't take it if you have a bleeding disorder or kidney
problem....both of which Serena has, even on a good day. So I guess she'll be
getting Motrin now too.
Got an ultrasound of her kidney last night (she has a horseshoe shaped one) and
found something interesting/dangerous. The left side of her kidney is swollen,
inflammed, and holding on to urine. Also I knew she has 3 tubes going from her
kidney to her bladder and was told (back in the NICU) that these tubes were
spaced out on her kidney. Last night they found that the tubes are all on the
right side of her kidney and looks like one is kinked off (like a kink in a
hose). So now they're trying to figure out what to do....wether or not Urology
needs to get involved. I say yes but we will see.
Also it looks like she has para-influenza...a type of flu but not full blown
flu. We will see....
Then they got an allergy specialist involved and they are going to run a ton of
blood work in the morning, do a TB test, check anti-bodies, etc. to see if
Serena has a suppressed immune system. They think it is because since Christmas
she's had a cough, runny nose, etc. and it just hasn't gone away. That and now
she's on 6 L of oxygen instead of 1L.
I am just so tired, drained, and am getting sick myself. I am coughing bad and
running a bit of fever. Hopefully mine is just a cold.
Will update more as I can and as I find out more information. Things are just
not moving so fast here right now. Another day, another wait and see game.
They're drawing blood now for the allergy docs. Need about 20 mLs of blood and
had 4 nurses in there trying to find a good vein. Serena is such a hard stick.
Then they're going to do a TB test. Not sure what else is going on. More just
wait and see. Also her 2nd uring culture isn't growing anything...."
Anyone else have a child with Horseshoe kidneys that have Hydronephrosis? What
can be done, etc?
