Hello friends. Yesterday, I had to pick up my son Nate from preschool
early because he kept getting nosebleeds (before now, he's had them
at night, not during the day). I know that his platelet count is ok
(after having neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia that resolved
about 1 month after his birth), but I remember reading in posts from
this group (or the CDO group) that that is not the only test that
should be given to kids with Jacobsen's Syndrome or other 11q
disorders. And are nosebleeds in and of themselves reason for concern
(in the past, I've attributed them to chronic allergic congestion and
the ever-favorite past-time of "picking")? We've managed to stop his
nosebleeds in what seems like a reasonable timeframe to me, and any
other scrapes and cuts he's gotten seem to clot normally--but maybe
I'm missing something.
Anyway, as many of you can appreciate, I need to go see his primary
care physician to get tests done, but it's better if I go armed with
the names of the tests and what they're for because we are educating
the PCP as we go. Are there specific tests that evaluate platelet
function/clotting? Any thoughts on this are welcome!
Thanks,
Heather
