I am on this list because I have 3 grandsons with 11q deletion. But I also have a granddaughter with 2q deletion and that is what I am writing about...Puberty issues.
Kayla will be 15 next month and she has been diagnosed as having 2q deletion. She has autism and is also physically handicapped. In regard to puberty, Kayla has had only 3-4 "spotty" periods. She has small developing breast buds. She has been on Risperdal for 10 years and I have read/heard that when girls are taking that, they don't really get regular periods. I thought she would freak out when she first started spotting, but Mom just put a panty liner on her and she was OK with that. But because she is actually is quite low functioning, she doesn't really "get" what it is all about.
If anyone has any questions to ask, I would be glad to answer them.
