Redirection does not always work with Nathan either although that is my first way of trying to deal with it when he becomes aggressive. Secondly I will massage his arms and legs and talk calmly to him telling him it is not nice to (ie) head butt. If that still does not work I will take him to his room for a time out. After about 5 minutes of crying because he "got in trouble" he is usally better or asleep.
Nathan has an enlarged heart and a prolapsed valve. From what I understand most 11Q- children do have heart problems.

I was thinking that I was more of a communication thing. We try to teach her signs which she knows some. She just gets really mad very fast.I try to remove her away from the situation and distract her quick. It works sometimes but she will go right back to doing it again. Also anything question: Does any of your JS kids have heart disorders? My daughter has Hypoplastic Aortic Arch, Bicuspid Aortic Valve and Parachute Mitral Valve..

Subject: Re: [11q_disorders] Aggressive?I have to agree with Jana. Nathan does not bite but headbutts. All of his therepist think it is a sensory need. He does not headbutt as often now that he signs prodomitily and can convey his needs. Nathan (yippey) turned 5 on August 19.
Jana Wells <janabananablue@yahoo.com> wrote:Faith does the biting and pinching also, mostly when she doesn't feel well. From what we have learned of the syndrome they are not aggressive, but it is frustration that causes them to act out. I heard this is very common with ANY delayed child as they cannot communicate. Everyone we met said they grow out of the biting stage. I hope soon Faith is almost 3! :)
