My son Daniel is 4 and still bites, but it
is slacking off in frequency. He mostly does it out of frustration. Another
thing that he does is hit himself in the head or in his ears. He will do this
when we tell him “no” to something. Can anyone offer any possible
methods to stop or diminish this behavior?
I do agree, that the biting and the
hitting are a method of communication that the kids use because they lack other
communication skills and not because they are aggressive by nature. Daniel has
an awesome disposition and his actions are certainly not malicious.
Thanks,
RICK

Aggressive?
I have to
agree with Jana. Nathan does not bite but headbutts. All of his therepist think
it is a sensory need. He does not headbutt as often now that he signs
prodomitily and can convey his needs. Nathan (yippey) turned 5 on August 19.

Faith does the biting and pinching also, mostly when she doesn't feel
well. From what we have learned of the syndrome they are not aggressive, but it
is frustration that causes them to act out. I heard this is very common with
ANY delayed child as they cannot communicate. Everyone we met said they grow
out of the biting stage. I hope soon Faith is almost 3! :)

Her teacher said that it probably comes
with the syndrome. She is a biter and she likes to grab faces when she is mad..
Thanks
