Subject: I am new


Hello all....

Sitting here this morning going through the Yahoo Search engine with
the words "Fear of Doctors" and found this list. Talk about a
bullseye, huh?

Anyways, I've read some of the postings and I am pretty much in the
same boat. I am hoping I can give as well as take some support from
here.

A little about myself. I'm 42 years old and have a terrible fear of
anything medically related. I've done counseling, drugs (Zoloft)
biofeedback, meditation but still have not been able to overcome my
fear enough to bring myself to see a doctor. I know enough that its
a matter of repetitive exposure, but unlike driving to a bridge (or
some fear like this) repetitve exposure to doctors doesnt work that
way. For one, I don't even know how to approach one and say "can I
come sit in your waiting room, office for 15 minutes a week - and
maybe in six weeks you could let me touch your stetescope" - LOL!!!

Seriously, I wish I could handle this problem. I've got some medical
concerns now that are really scaring me. And, I think I am in a
cycle - the more anxiety I have, the worst I feel - swallowing air,
cramps, IBS, etc....
