My name is Cris I am from germany and I am 38 years old. My whole life I had problems with my teeth; when I was 12 years old I got lots of teeth filled and I got some braces for about 4 years. After that I had lots of cavities and got one golden crown and one inlay. I hated going to the dentist my whole life and still have a lot of fear.
At the moment I wear some partial dentures and I have a lot of work still to be done.
Need some crossed fingers to get the work done. Really hate it....
Chris

First I want to thank everyone who responded to my last post. It
means alot to me to have understanding, compassionate people in my
corner. I went to my regular dentists today to see about getting an
upper denture. It seems that the bridge I have on my front 6 teeth,(
there are only 3 teeth under it that support it ) is so loose, he's
afraid my teeth will come out when he goes to do impressions.
SO.........he wants me to get ALL of my upper teeth out and a week
later he'll start impressions. That means I'll be WITHOUT teeth for
about 6 weeks while the teeth are being made!! I thought I was going
to be able to get immediates..Besides that, the fear of having ALL my
teeth pulled out with hopefully an IV Sedation is freaking me out!
The oral surgeon says he isn't sure he'll be able to do the IV
Sedation on me, because he has to make sure he can find a good vein
to use..get that!
I'm a very heavy woman, and not sure if that has something to do with
it, but these guys have me scared out of my mind right now. I am
soooooo upset:-(
Besides some other upsetting things going on in my life, this takes
the cake..When it rains it pours.
Hugs to all,
Elise
Hey people! I am pretty new to the group and I don't mean to be annoying, but I wanted to let all of you know I finally got my webcam back. It took a while to repair, but everything is running great now, and the picture is crystal clear. The repair guy also told me that he added some new software to allow me to talk live to those watching me! So if any of you guys want to chat come try it out on my new homepage :)
*Hugs* Elise ;-) I'm not sure if you got my message from the other group
so I'll just forward you my basic message :-) I'm sorry that you are so
frightened! I absolutely hate going to the dentist!! I think I'd rather
get another colonoscopy (scope of the colon/large intestine) rather than
going to the dentist and getting cavities filled or any type of work done
to my teeth :-)
Is anesthesia your main concern? Cause I believe that there are
alternatives to general anesthesia/being put to sleep. Of course When
;-) you talk with the dentist, he or she can talk to you about options.
Some people can get local anesthesia with IV sedation as an alternative
to general anesthesia. I'm not certain that that is a workable option in
your case (and with getting dentures), but it's something to find out
about from the dentist. Have you ever been to this dentist? Perhaps
some of your worry is that he or she is not competent or experienced.
Perhaps you can get a referral from someone, either a friend or from
someone else and check out the dentist's experience and credentials.
Please write back! Take good care, Aimee
Hi everyone, I have gone thru years of living with the pain and
suffering of having teeth that should be pulled. It's come to my
needing an upper denture and I've got a terrible fear of the dentist
so it's been a devestating thought to me.
I should give some background: I am a very heavy woman, and have been
told it's dangerous to put someone my size to sleep. So, I'm very
concerned about how I would ever do this without being totally
knocked out!
I have a bad upper molar that at this present time is hurting so I
have to act quickly.
I need some support and others input and stories to get me thru this.
I'm so scared, I'm having trouble even picking up the phone to make
an appointment! Please help me! Thank you all so much.
Sincerely,
Elise

As far as I know, this CAN be normal with any filling, white or amalgam (due to
trauma). Give it at least 4 weeks, unless it's very painful. Can take longer.
Give
it a chance to settle down - the time frame can be unpredictable. But if there's
no noticable improvement after about 1-2 months, you may want to get a
second opinion. Replacing it with amalgam is probably going to do more
harm than good, because more tooth structure needs to be removed (equals
more trauma).

I've had the amalgam (mercury) removed from a chipped tooth (#37). A
white-filling (plastic with light gun) was then put on the tooth. Now
the tooth's nerve is sensitive to light pressure while eating, even
though the bite has been adusted and seems fine. Is this sensitivity
normal with white fillings, and how long does it normally take to go
away? Dentist has suggested removing the white filling and replacing
it with amalgam (ugh!).
Any intelligent advice is appreciated!

Hey, he didn't tell me how many cavities I had, but I know that there are quite a few. As I said before, he said the next step that would be taken is a deep cleaning of all of the teeth. Then from there, he is going to fill any cavities that I have. After that, I am not sure. I have had 3 wisdom teeth taken out, and 1 molar in the back. I also lost a front tooth because of my fear of root canal. I haven't had any of my cavities filled yet. I know the last step in the
process is to get a bridge, or an implant or something where I had lost the tooth in the front. He also recommended a retainer to place my teeth closer together. There is a small gap now on the top because of the tooth that I lost in the front. Oh, bty, I am 32/female.

NO..I have Blue Cross but no dental coverage, but I did pay him in cash fully! He is an oral surgeon also, not a regular dentist, so I thought I would be safer and he would know what he was doing, when it came to a basically routine extraction...

Hi Just joined this group today..I am also having problems..Had
an upper molar extracted 3 wks ago by an oral surgeon...Just yesterday
I noticed a bump on my gum above the extraction site and it was draining a white puss...Went back to OS and he said infection..Gave me penicillin and a mouth rinse (Peridex) and told me it shows something on xray in extraction site (food, bone, he doesnt know)
He also now wants to go under the scar tissue and clean it out..So
far I have been on the penicillin for 3 days and no difference..have
pain and soreness all around the extraction and gum area...Supposed
to get it debrided or whatever tomm...I am pissed I have to go back..Thought once the tooth was out, my problems would be over! Just wondering what happened with your problem and how you made out Nancy
