I just joined the list and thought I would see if anyone could help me with this problem.
My last dentist appointment, he told me that I have developed some plaque build-up at and below my gum line... he said that I could have gum disease and wanted to do a DEEP cleaning. He also said that he is starting to see a bit of receding gum line. Now, besides being totally afraid of the pain associated with this, he told me that since I am pregnant, he would not be able to offer me any type of pain medication, but that he would go slow. UGH!!! He said I could go to a periodontal specialist, but I can't do that right now.
Years ago I was supposed to have my wisdom teeth pulled as they said there wasn't enough room for them to come in. But, they weren't causing me any pain so I didn't elect to have them pulled. Well, they are in, and one is loose because there just isn't enough room for it to be stable.
Also, from braces years ago, I have some "cement" residue left. He wants to remove that as well, but said he would only do it at the same time as the Deep cleaning.
So, here are my questions/concerns... I can't go to another dentist right now because of insurance/money... but I don't want to go through that DEEP cleaning un-medicated. Does anyone have any advice about what I can do to either reverse the situation or at least keep it from getting worse? (A home remedy?) I do floss, but my dentist said that being pregnant can cause many changes that otherwise wouldn't have happened. Anyway, I have also had bleeding gums, that I never had before. My dentist said this was gestational gingivitis. I also use Listerine mouthwash, which seems to be helping.
He also said that he would like to pull that wisdom tooth, which I guess is ok, I've just never had a tooth pulled before.
I have just never even had a cavity, so going through any type of dental procedure really scares me.
Clearwater. But there are others besides him that practice this type of
wholistic dentistry. Look up "Alternative dentists" or "wholistic dentists"
on the web to find some sort of list of dentists that may be closer to you.
But not all are conservative. I went to 5 different "wholistic dentists to
get 5 different price quotes. Ranging from $5,500 - $38,000. (I had 10 years
of neglect. ) I flipped a coin and went to one out of 2 that gave me the
same ball park quote of $6,000. Both have integrity as human beings.
Remember, this is America and a professional must pay his rent and overhead
in order to stay in practice. It is almost no fault of the dentist to do
work that may be unessassary. Eventually the ones with integrity will have
to start doing work that is unessessary.

Where is this florida dentist located??
Dianne
the idea is to stimulate the area around the tooth to bring blood to the area and remove debri from the tissue.
I have read of techniques using peroxide, baking soda, cayenne, salt, tea tree oil etc.....
keep searching but here is one i have heard of from a real great dentist in Florida; (dentists in the past, old timers, conservative dentists and those from communist contries have versions of similar recipes also.
1) First brush your teeth and floss
2) then mix a batch of 3 parts baking soda and 1 part salt in a container
3) -pinch some into the palm of your hands and add make a paste with a few drops of water. (If you do not have silver amalgham fillings, you can get more benefit from using a few drops of peroxide to add to make a past instead of water.)
4) -get the mixture onto a small child size soft 3 row brush......and vibrate the mixture into the area betwwen each individual tooth and gum. The idea is for the brush to vibrate the mixture into the space between the gum and the tooth. Do not go in circular motion or back and forth. It has to be jiggled in.
5) - Go on the outside of each tooth, then the inside, back, top etc.
Do this once a day, untill you get use to it. Then 2 times a day. When yiou have been doing this 2 times a day for 2 weeks, the gums willl be nice and tuff and pink.
IMPORTANT: Baking soda and salt can be real painful on bleeding raw sensative gums and teeth if the enamel is worn out especially. So you have to be a quinie pig for a while and try just a dab to see what you can handle. Or even dilute the mixture so it does not go on so thick.
There is also a book called the "smiley method" which does a similar thing but uses a ssyringe to drip a mixture that contains a bit of peroxide and something else into the pockets betweeen the gums an tooth. You can oder it on line.
floss despite bleeding, floss it will stop bleeding.

Hello all, I'm new to this group and I am looking for tips on fighting gum disease. My boyfriend was recently let go from his job and we lost our insurance. We also have a baby so things are tough and I'm not sure when he can go back to the dentist. Anyway, on his last visit he was told he had gingivitis, not severe but it was getting there. He is only 20 and he brushes more then twice a day. I am worried that things might get worse and most of what I have seen on the net says he needs perscriptions. Without insurance this is tough to do, so does anyone know of a good solution that will help treat his gums until we can get back on our feet?

There is funny spoof on this letter if I have time to look for it, I will
send it. These letters are rubbish, though, no?
The spoof goes, like "you will find a surpise in your pants... etc...."

There are nice dentists out there. A dentist like you describe may be one
who is interested in a whole person approach. This is called holistic
dentistry or alternative dentist practices which seems to be becoming more
available and accepted nowadays that amalgham is being attacked with good
reason. Look for alternative/holistic/natural/non-toxic dentists in your
area or search on internet frst.

My earliest experience at the dentist involved the removal of five
teeth. I was totally terrified of the experience. Subsequent visits
were just as bad. One time when I objected to the forthcoming of the
novocaine shot, my dentist slapped me across the face. Consequently,
I have always been uncomfortable at the dentist.
Now years later, I don't put up with any crap at all from dentists.
They either do things my way-nitrous oxide for all work, topical, and
numerous shots to deaden the area to be worked on or I immediately go
to another dentist.
I've found that it seems to take 5-6 dentists in a new area (and this
is with alot of phone calls before hand sorting them out) before I
find one with which I am comfortable. Because things change
(insurance, jobs, good dentist retiring on me etc.), I am always
looking for the next one.
But the one thing that I can not seem to find is a dentist that has a
staff which does not have distain and/or lack of respect for me as a
patient. Apparently, I am a major interuption for them. Since they
can't run me in and out of the office quickly, the staff treats me
like dirt.
I am employed in a service intensive industry myself. If I treated my
clients like they treated me, I would not have any. I pay my bills
and am completely up front about my needs, but then they want to do
things their way-no time for a shot,or nitrous etc.
If this profession treated me properly in the first place, I probably
wouldn't need to go through all the "hastle". Comments please.
I don't know that it is any one name. It is just any place that is set up to
do dental work but is not owned for the intention of making a profit, so the
dentists are paid by the state or by fixed salary, or, they take turns
volunrteering. Some dental schools offer something like this. In big cities,
they will cost more, in smaller areas, they may do services for a smaller
fee, but someone may have to qualify as low income etc.
Perhaps see clinics. Just becasue one goes there, does not mean you have to
get the work done there.....It is mearly to get more spread out opinion from
some dentist or someone who knows how to read x-rays and see your gums and
teeth who is not worried about making his rent overhead/ malpractice
insurance and paying his staffs salary.
Think about it. If a dentist has 3 girls working in the office, thats about
$20,000+ each + benefits for their salaries. Plus he needs to make a
desireable weekly income or else why have a practice. What dentist in a
capitalist country is going to really tell you if you don't really need
certain things done to your teeth. A filling can cost up to $250+ or so when
it is messy and large. A crown $800+. Get my point. If you use cheap stuff
or mixed metal w/amalgham the worst, it can be less costly, but then there
is the mercury in those metal ones. You don't want thas.

I went to 4 dentists for consults before choosing. Took 3 years before
taking the plunge. While waiting, analysing, procrastinating, i am sure i
ruined my teeth even further.
dentist #1 - told me i needed 1 crown, and lots of cavities and fillings. I
began treatment but only repaired one cavity and got a temp filling in it
which needs to supposedly still get a crown and it has been 4 years. Cost
$5,000 +
I did a little dental work here and there with dentist #1, but when i met
dentist #4, that is whom i chose, even though i felt #1 was sincere. My doc
uses #4 who is much older and that is why.
#2 - told me i needed every tooth in my mouth crowned plus 1 root canal and
lots of cavities. cost - $35,000
#3 - said i needed 2/3 of my teeth crowned, and lots of cavities. cost -
$18,000
#4 - said i needed no crowns but an overlay, lots of cavities, old amalgam
to remove and repair with composite/ resin, no , mercury. - cost $6,000
I chose dentist # 4 from #1 because he was the oldest and said i did not
need crowns. So you see the range. Get many opinions. Go to a clinic or
colledge or non for profit place with your x-rays for a consult/exam opinion
becasue they make no profit so have no desire to harpoon you or make you do
things you don't need. SUppposedly.

Yeh, you were supposed to get a decent crown to protect it from bacteria.
You can gain some time with less pain, if you cure this infection.
If you have any n\antibiotics that you safely took before, (Like for
a sore throat), you can probably take them for about one or two days and
will se a difference.
Hey technically, you are supposed to go to a dentist.
(But I did guess it. You have more than a crack inthe crown. You have
no crown.)
You have a shabby "temp". That is not on tight enough to keep bateria
out. It is not enough to keep the eyedrops out, either. The eydrops might
work. It is the safest thing.).
I have had pains, put myself on anitibiotics, and been told I was was
doing the right thing, by dentists.
They just dont want to give everytbody anitiboitics, cause them can
get in trouble by their licensing boards (evil peers).
I have even been told that if there is awhit raised area om the gum,
near the surface, to go ahaead and prick it with an alcnol dipped neele
to relive pressure there. And come into their office as soon as them can
get you in. This is to prevent night time visits, and for you and he,
to get some sleep, and such,.
Small abscesses are only imergencies is\f thereis significant pain
or ilfmaation. Or if you immune system is compromised.
Also, they will squeeze you in immeditaely if you say you have
an abscess.
"Abscess" is a buzz word that twill get you immediate treatment.
I am not a dintist or a cotor. bnut this is info that I have found
to be true.
My teeth got ruined by an alcoholic dentist, back inthe 50s WehnI
was a child,k this man woild snoke a cigarette, right in my face, as he
was o\wrking onme. people cannot beleive this. I didn't know it was worng.
I was a baby.
I seriously would do the naitbiotics, and then tell him that you did.
He won't scold you.
(Well, if he does, then I'd laugh, becuase he was the one that left
you with a shoddily constructed temp. ANd h probably knew you were phovic.
He could have done a much better job on the temp.).
A good temp only costs him less than $10 in plastic and cement. (they
come in sets)
I ordered a catalog of dental mateirals in the mail and found out a
lot.

Maybe wiggle the toothea smidgen to see lke it there is a crack inthe

it doesn't work in a day +1/2, I'd switch to oral anitibiotics.

Oh yeh, the liquid kind worked great for me. It held me over for years.
(Expiration date not matter, either. It is offically good for 2 years
past the date.
I'd get a flare up like once a year of once overy 2-4 years. And it
would kill it that day.
It was Neosporin Opthalmic, saline based eye drops. And you get it
for under $4.00 in Mexico.
(Saline means water with NaCl in it, to the same constistency as blood
and tears, etc., so it won't damage eye or other sensitive tissues. And
it would be PH normal, too. In fact, "Saline is aolso called "normal saline").
Hey, I'm gald you are here so I can "show off")
I live near the border and started buying things like creams and antibiotics
for my pets (I have 12).
And I noticed they were produced in our country and packaged here,
too.!
Some are from England, Some from Mexico. There are many geenrics there,
too.
But Neosporin brand is dirt cheap there.
Some other name brands, are dirt cheap, too.
Real expensive sutff here, (Retina-A), etc.) and no doctor hassles.
Yeh, ya just drop it like an eye dropper. (An old lady told me about using rubbing alcohol
to do it, and it worked, too.) The eye medidcine was a brainstorm of mine. Why would it be bad? (Beause youare igmoring the real problem andentist
would say!) That the tooth needs to be pulled amd you
need to have pins drilled into you r bones. Actually, if you get your tooth pulle,d less
bloos flows to the bone,s and you will experienc BONE LOSS. and possible facial deformities that pple
get. No dentist would deny the bone thing It is
too well known and documented. But they wil tell you they have meds for
it and bone powder, too. But they have not been tested long enough
yet. They just came out last year. If you use listerine mouth wash in your mouth before the eyedrops,
so you will just have a germ free mouth,
You can still use it for the kids.

See, it ilike cleaning out a hole.
Evidently they scraped the walls of that hole, but didn't do it good
enough so some bacteria was left. Or they introduced some.
Either way, Antibiotics is the easiest quickest way to kill bacteria.
It is most likely staph. (it is everywhere).
And the strongest thing against staph specific, is Doxy.
They gave us doxy for tootha ches, Doxy for post oral surgery (other
antibiotics didnt' work, but yu can try them) They gave me doxy for a spider
bite, too.
Root cananl "is" minor surgery, and they used to issue it routinely
after RC's but there is a "scare" against issuing it for prophylaxis, now
a days.
(Wish a REAL dentist would come to this list!)
I am not a doctor, ya know...
Just some pre-med classes and some "rounds" and a lot of experience
and study....
Abscess is not "supposed" to happen now, no.
But it did.
JMBWE123@... wrote:
So what can be done for a tooth that has

YEh,
500 mg 2x a day is cool.
That would be less than most of the health nuts take.
The dude who discovered it's properies recommended 5-6 grams and more.
2x 500 = 1 gram.
plenty enough for me.
Another doc might want to give you a "better" root cnanl....
A bridge is nothing, but they wuld insist on pulling that tooth,
threatening you with "more infe tins if they don't.
They might even refuse to give you a bredge without pulling the tooth.
I hate dentists.
