* I just returned from a vacation in Jamaica. I had never been out of
the country before, so it was an eye opener to see other cultures.
G yes it can be an eye opener.
* My husband had to work in Kingston, so we stayed at the Hilton in
the Financial District. The carribean people who worked at the
hotel were extremely nice and helpful. They have a slower way of
life, not so rushed and stressful. I was shocked at the amount of
poverty that I saw. Gave what little I had, but wish I could give
more.
G it is like that is quite a bit of the world.
* There is one scenario in particular that got me to thinking about
the path. There were two homeless people that my husband
encountered on his way to work. One was polite, and never asked for
anything, just made small talk and explained to Steve how he became
to be homeless (gang green and diabetes set in while he was in the
military). The other homeless person approached Steve demanding
money and talking about how my husband should buy him food. Steve
turned around and asked Why? Why should he give anything to someone
who had done NOTHING to deserve it other than demand it. The
homeless person started preaching something on "respect". Steve
smiled and said, "fine", and started walking toward Burger King to
purchase food for both homeless people he had met. The second
begger had a fit, because he didn't want burger king. He wanted it
to come from another restaurant across the street…one that was
considerably more expensive. Steve, startled that a beggar would be
so choosey, went ahead and obliged. They both walked into the
restaurant. The beggar was rude to the waitresses. Demanding water
refills in harsh tones yelling to everyone about "respect". Just as
Steve was about to order food to go, the beggar told him that he
wanted the Fish Soup. Steve laughed and ordered it for the rude
beggar, and then ordered 3 orders of chicken and breadsticks for
the other beggar. He told me that he intended to order the same
amount for the rude beggar, but he had been so demanding to the
waitstaff and of Steve, Steve just gave him what he asked for and
nothing more. The beggar walked off as soon as the bowl of soup was
finished to go out and demand more money from others. Steve took
the other orders and gave them to the homeless person along with
$20.00 placed discreetly in the bag of food. The nice man started
crying and told him that he hadn't had lunch in days and thanked him
humbly. Each day my husband returned to the old man and Steve would
eat lunch with him as he talked about his days in the military.
On the flight home, I thought of this story. Perhaps this was a
good metaphor. People who come into this world demanding and hard
hearted, get only what they ask for, and nothing more (little cup
for grace to fill). One that comes into this world with a kind,
open, humble heart, is bestowed with more grace. (their cup is a
little bigger?)
G so let me get this straight everyone should respect the homeless guy
and yet he has no respect nor gratitude ? he has a long way to go - the
other one will progress - interesting for you to see.
* The trip was relaxing for the family as well. My 2 and 4 year old
enjoyed splashing in the water and the tropical sun. A nice change
from the brisk fall. Unfortunately on the last day there, my
daughter and I contracted a bad cold and we are still sick from it.
G sorry to hear of the illness - am glad to hear that you enjoyed
the sun while there though.
* The next day when we had to fly home, that cold turned into an ear
infection during the flight. The pressure in the middle ear was
somewhat painful during the flight because of the altitude changes
and blocked Eustachian tubes. I have to admit that what helped it
the most was listening to the mantras through the headphones during
flight. Seemed to help soothe the pain. At the moment, i have a
raging ear infection in both ears – hopefully this will subside soon
with lots of vitamin C, Echinacea, mantras, and energy work.
G may you recover Now. Let wellness fill your being -
thank you for sharing your trip story
Love,
Avlokita
